Ultrapulse Fractional CO2 Laser ActiveFX & DeepFX

Lumenis Ultrapulse Fractional CO2 Laser - ActiveFX and DeepFX

The Lumenis Ultrapulse CO2 laser is considered to be the gold-standard of CO2 lasers with over 90 references in published scientific articles.

The Ultrapulse is the most powerful of all CO2 fractional lasers, and is therefore able to deliver high energy treatments safely.

We believe that the Ultrapulse CO2 laser gives unparalleled results for skin rejuvenation, particularly where more advanced sun-damage and ageing changes are present.

How does the Ultrapulse fractional CO2 work?

The Ultrapulse delivers infrared light into either deep or superficial or combination fractional skin treatments. These are known as DeepFX, ActiveFX or TotalFX treatments. The Ultrapulse CO2 laser is an ablative laser, meaning that small columns of skin are vaporised by the laser light. This occurs due to the heating of water within the skin.

ActiveFX ablates skin predominantly in the epidermis or superficial skin layers. This is beneficial for fine lines, pigmentation abnormalities and skin texture improvement.

DeepFX ablates columns of skin reaching into the dermis or deeper skin layer. This is beneficial for deeper lines and wrinkles and acne scarring or burns scarring.

What conditions can be treated?

  • lines and wrinkles on the face
  • wrinkles around the eyes
  • lines around the mouth
  • sun damage
  • improving skin texture
  • improving pore size
  • acne scars
  • surgical scars
  • burns scars
  • poikiloderma of Civatte (sun damage on the chest)
  • pearly penile papules
  • many other conditions such as benign skin growths

What is the healing time?

In most treatments, healing time (downtime) is between 7 - 14 days. Some areas may be slower, such as the chest, hands or arms.

What are the risks?

Overall, fractional CO2 laser treatment is very safe. Some temporary redness in the treated area is commonly seen. This may persist for some weeks after the treatment, and in the very occasional case can persist for months.

As with all laser and IPL treatments, the other risks involved include pigment changes (both increased and decreased pigment), as well as risks of infections in the immediately treated areas, and scarring. In addition, some persons do not respond to the treatment. In many cases, more than one treatment may be required.

Pearly Penile Papules

This common condition affecting the glans penis is often a source of embarrassment. It is a normal variation where small lumps (papules) composed of fibrous tissue and blood vessels arise and may be mistaken for genital wart infection. PPPs are easily treated with CO2 laser. Local aneasthetic cream is applied to the area for 60 minutes prior to treatment which is then painless. Each papule is then vaporised with the laser leaving a small scab which heals over 5 - 7 days. Mild cases require only a single treament session, but many cases need 2 - 3 treatments. We have treated many hundreds of cases or PPPs with excellent succes and no side-effects.
