PDO Mono Rejuvenating Threads

Introducing PDO Mono Threads

PDO Mono Rejuvenating Threads offer a non-surgical alternative to injectables to improve the condition of the skin and stimulate collagen and elastin formation.

As we age, we lose facial volume through bone resorption, muscle atrophy, fat loss and redistribution, resulting in noticeable changes in the overlying skin with sagging, loss of skin tone and contour irregularities.

Combined with the gradual loss of collagen and elastin, the skin develops wrinkles, becomes looser and begins to sag which further contributes to a tired and aging face.

Specialty areas we treat

PDO Mono Rejuvenating Threads improve the condition of the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin formation. They can be used to smooth, support and rejuvenate numerous areas with a long history of safe and reliable use.

At Laser Skin Care our talented Doctors Dr Jenny & Dr Paige are now offering PDO threads targeting specific areas that are typically hard to treat with other modalities. These areas include the Tear Trough, lines on cheek and chin area, and Perioral Lip Wrinkles.

Tear Troughs
PDO threads can improve under-eye bags, dark circles and under eye wrinkles by strengthening and supporting the eye area.

Lines on Cheek and Chin Area
PDO threads can help minimize the signs of aging around the chin and cheek area by smoothing and tightening the skin to reduce wrinkles and lines in the area. Results have have been very favorable for patients with limited nonsurgical procedures available.

Perioral Lip Wrinkles
Perioral wrinkles are the fine or deep lines that occur around the mouth and lips. PDO threads increase collagen stimulation in the area and will soften the perioral wrinkles for a smoother looking top lip.

PDO threads are used to improve the condition of the skin

The components of our range of PDO Mono rejuvenating threads actively work to stimulate collagen production which, over time, works to increase the volume and restore the shape of the face in a natural way.

PDO Mono Rejuvenating threads are made of a fine synthetic material called Polydioxanone (PDO) with a long history of safe and reliable use in medicine and surgery such as in sutures to close wounds. This material will dissolve over time and is completely eliminated from the body.

Mono threads are fine and thin lengths of PDO and do not have barbs or cogs. They are loaded into a fine needle and inserted into the skin. These Mono threads are either single threads or multiple threads twisted together. The more PDO in the thread, the greater the collagen stimulation, so certain threads are better suited to certain areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mono threads are small, smooth threads. They are not lifting threads and do not have lift capacity, barbs or cogs. The purpose of mono threads is skin firming, skin thickening and natural rejuvenation. This results in smoother, healthier skin and improved contour.

Mono Threads are fine threads made of an absorbable material called polydioxanone. They are
inserted under the skin in a mesh like pattern for skin tightening. Over the next 3-4 months, these threads stimulate the formation of new collagen as they dissolve, giving even better results. Mono threads may be used alone, or in conjunction with long threads for additional support.

PDO Threads have a long history of safe and reliable use in medicine and surgery such as in sutures to close wounds. This material will dissolve over time and is completely eliminated from the body.

Topical numbing cream is used in the area, following which the threads are introduced into the skin through a fine needle underneath the skin. The treatment results in an immediate improvement in the appearance of the skin and overall texture – becoming tighter and firmer as
fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity are reduced.

At Laser Skin Care our talented Doctors Dr Jenny & Dr Paige are now offering PDO threads targeting specific areas that are typically hard to treat with other modalities.

These areas include the Tear Trough (under eye area), lines on cheek and chin area, and Perioral Lip Wrinkles (fine or deep lines that occur around the mouth and lips).

Results of PDO Mono rejuvenating threads takes up to 8 weeks to become evident, whilst collagen stimulation occurs. Follow up at 12 weeks is recommended to assess the initial results and perform a second treatment is required.

The results will continue to improve in the months following the procedure. Generally, results improve over the following 2-3 months with the actual thread itself dissolving after 6 months.

The results of collagen stimulation then work to maintain the results after the threads dissolve. Results will last for up to 2 years after treatment, this is very dependent on the healing and aging processes of the individual.

It is important to remember that rejuvenation threads will not lift the skin and work solely on collagen stimulation, results will vary depending on the condition of the skin before treatment.

Mono Threads are ideal for rejuvenating the skin without adding volume or ‘bulk’ to the
treatment area and complement volumizing treatments such as treatment with Dermal Fillers. These threads actively work to stimulate collagen production which, over time, works to tighten and recondition the skin. They can work to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and
skin texture by stimulating collagen.

A process of natural protein synthesis begins after about 10-14 days. Over the subsequent weeks results will continue to improve, peaking at around 3 – 4 months and lasting for up to 18 months as your own body produces collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The thread itself is completely biodegradable and will dissolve within 6 months, after which new collagen has formed around the thread to continue to support results, maintaining a smooth and supple texture of the skin.

There is minimal downtime, usually 2-5 days of bruising and swelling and the specialised needles allow small areas to be tackled effectively. As there are no incisions, stitches are not
required and scarring is unlikely.

The most commonly reported side effects:
Swelling, redness and bruising
Pain and tenderness
Bleeding, bruising and or haematoma

Less commonly reported side effects:
Thread protrusion, puckering of the skin, infection, granuloma, facial nerve trauma, allergy reaction.

The whole process can take anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes depending on the number of threads required for the procedure.

Following the procedure, there may be minor bruising at the incision points and some swelling and tenderness. Most clients find they can return to work the following day without any concern, however, we advise to avoid any important events for up to 2 weeks to allow any bruising or swelling to subside.

Discomfort may last longer in some individuals and those who have multiple threads placed at once. We advise a soft diet and limiting the degree of mouth opening until these feelings of discomfort have subsided.

It is important not to touch your face or manipulate the threads at all.

Aftercare is advised including avoidance of facial procedures, heavy exercise and sleeping on your sides or stomach. Full aftercare instructions will be provided following the treatment in order to minimise potential side effects and maximise the results in your individual case.
