The Fotona Laser

A Precision Laser Treatment for Skin Refinement

The Fotona Smooth mode is a non-ablative laser treatment modality using an Er:YAG laser to stimulate collagen remodeling and tightening of the skin. It delivers laser energy in a unique, sub-second pulse sequence, which heats the skin gently and evenly, promoting collagen production without significant ablation of the epidermis.

This makes it suitable for skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, and skin tightening, with minimal downtime and discomfort.  As a result, you get an improvement of superficial pigmentation (sunspots), diminished fine lines and wrinkles, smoother overall skin tone and texture, and decreased skin laxity.

How It Compares: Fotona vs. IPL & Fraxel

If you’re considering laser skin rejuvenation, here’s how the Fotona compares:

  • Stronger than IPL: While IPL is great for reducing redness and light pigmentation, the Fotona targets slightly deeper layers, making it more effective for improving skin texture and mild laxity.
  • Milder than Fraxel: Fraxel delivers a more intensive resurfacing treatment and may be suitable for deeper scars and more dramatic results. Fotona offers a gentler alternative for those not ready for that level of downtime or recovery.
  • Not suitable for melasma or deep scarring: If you have melasma or more prominent scarring, your doctor may recommend an alternative treatment like Fraxel or CO2 Laser for best outcomes.

Our doctors will work closely with you to assess your skin and guide you toward the most appropriate treatment for your goals.

What to Expect During Treatment

During your appointment, your doctor will use a specialised laser handpiece to deliver controlled pulses across the treatment area. A topical numbing cream may be applied beforehand to minimise discomfort. Most treatments take between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated.

Post-Treatment

It’s normal to experience redness, swelling and a sunburn-like sensation in the first few days following treatment. Light peeling or flaking may also occur.

Your treating doctor will provide specific aftercare instructions tailored to your skin.

How Many Sessions Are Recommended?

Fotona Laser is most effective when delivered as a series of treatments. While results can be seen from the first session, most patients benefit from a course of up to five treatments spaced 4 – 8 weeks apart. Your doctor will advise on the most appropriate plan based on your skin and treatment goals.

Fotona Laser for Vascular & Pigmented Lesions

The Fotona Laser effectively treats a wide range of vascular and pigmented lesions by using precise wavelengths of light that are absorbed by targeted blood vessels or pigment within the skin. This allows selective treatment while preserving surrounding tissue.
It can address concerns such as facial veins (telangiectasia), cherry angiomas, spider veins, port-wine stains, and venous lakes. Fotona may also help reduce the appearance of superficial brown spots or sun-related pigmentation.
Each treatment is tailored by our doctors according to vessel size, colour, and depth to optimise outcomes while maintaining skin safety.

Varicose veins are not suitable for laser and may require alternative treatments such as sclerotherapy.
